A legendary figure in Indian sport, Prakash Padukone is celebrated for transforming badminton in India and inspiring generations through excellence, discipline, and leadership. Prakash made history as the first Indian to win the prestigious All England Badminton Championships in 1980, followed by victories including the inaugural World Cup and a World Championship bronze medal. He also won the Indian National men’s singles title for nine consecutive years, a record that still stands, and became the country’s youngest national champion at just 16 years old. His achievements earned him prestigious honours including the Arjuna Award and Padma Shrifrom the Government of India.
After retiring from competitive badminton, Prakash founded the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, which has nurtured some of India’s finest badminton talent, including world-class athletes such as Lakshya Sen. He also co-founded Olympic Gold Quest, supporting Indian athletes in achieving excellence on the global stage.
